WELCOME, HEROES!

CONTRIBS ARE HARD AT WORK!

Our contributors are working hard
and doing Idaten proud!
First check-in is on the horizon.

The Iida Zine: Volume Two (INGENIUM2) is a fanzine project dedicated to Iida Tenya from the manga/anime Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kohei.Due to the Interest Check results and number of applications, the zine theme has changed just slightly to allow for both Pro Hero Tenya & Pro Hero Tensei to share the same zine, instead of having a separate add-on dedicated to Tensei.Check out our Schedule Page for dates for our
Interest Check, Apps, and Preorders!

Application Guidelines

ANY WORK SAMPLES MUST BE CREATED BY YOU. "AI" WORK WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION.

PLEASE READ BELOW BEFORE APPLYING! THANK YOU!

ALL applicants must be age 18 or over at the time of applying.

TO APPLY

  • Please create a folder for your portfolio in Google Drive with your credit name in the Drive folder's name.

  • Be sure the permissions are set to be viewed by anyone with the link.

  • Please submit only SFW examples in your portfolio—blood / violence is okay, similar to canon content. Please avoid drugs, alcohol, and abuse in your portfolios—failure to adhere to these conditions will result in disqualification.

  • Your examples do not have to contain Tenya or Tensei but it is encouraged so that we can see how you represent them in your style! :)

  • At least one work sample must be BNHA.

  • Writers will be expected to write at least one fanfic.

  • Page artists will be expected to create at least one page of artwork.

  • Merch artists will be responsible for at minimum one piece of merchandise.

  • Spot artists will be assigned at least one writer and be required to create 3-5 spot arts to complement the fic.

  • You may apply for multiple positions—however, for the most part, applicants will only be chosen for one role.

  • If you would potentially like to do more than one piece, you may discuss with the Mods during the pitching period.

Social media links, ao3 links, and personal websites
will not be considered as portfolios.
Please curate your best pieces for
review in a Google Drive folder.

WRITERS

APPS CLOSED

  • Please submit 2-3 samples that best demonstrate your style of writing.

  • Each sample should be 1,000-3,000 words. All 3 samples combined should not exceed 8k words.

  • At least one sample MUST be BNHA

  • It is not required to have a sample including Iida, but it is strongly encouraged.

  • We will be judging samples based on characterization, grammar, punctuation, flow, and plot.

  • All samples must be 100% written by you.

  • Previous zine works are allowed. If the zine isn't released yet, please ensure you have permission from your mods to share! We will not be sharing any applicants' links outside of the Iida Zine Mod Team.

  • Backgrounds are required, whether they are simple & decorative or environmental. At least one piece in your portfolio must have a detailed background.*

  • If you would like to be considered for making a comic for the zine, please include AT LEAST one example of previous comic work, so we can judge how well you carry a plot, readability, style, and the layout of panels.

  • Both digital and traditional works are acceptable—however, traditional work must be scanned in high quality.

  • *Please do not be afraid to submit examples of "different" or "experimental" styles—zines are about expressing yourself creatively to celebrate a favorite character or theme, and we would love to have a variety of styles!

  • Previous zine works are allowed. If the zine isn't released yet, please ensure you have permission from your mods to share! We will not be sharing any applicants' links outside of the Iida Zine Mod Team.

MERCH ARTISTS

APPS CLOSED

  • Please submit 3-6 samples of finished work that best represent your style & ability.

  • A "set" can count as one piece (for example, if you have Iida, Deku, and Uraraka together in a sticker set—you can count that as 1 of your 3-6, or choose to count them separately).

  • At least one sample MUST be BNHA.

  • It is not required to have a sample including Iida, but it is strongly suggested.

  • We will judge pieces based on composition, color and/or value, understanding of form & depth, and rendering.

  • We will consider more unique items during pitches, but if you have the desire to create a certain type of merchandise for the zine (enamel pins, acrylic charms, stickers, etc), it is encouraged to show work examples of those types of merch. It is not guaranteed that any artist will be assigned any specific type of merch.

  • All examples do not need to be merch "items." Full illustrations, or print examples, are encouraged.

  • Both digital and traditional works are acceptable - however, traditional work must be scanned in high quality.

  • Both digital and traditional works are acceptable—however, traditional work must be scanned in high quality.

QUESTIONS?
CHECK OUT OUR
ASK PAGE!

any adjustments to app guidelines once
applications open will be announced on our socials
thank you for applying!

FAQ WILL BE ADDED TO AS NECESSARY THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT.

Is this zine for charity or for profit?

The Iida Zine: Volume 2 - INGENIUM2 will be a for-profit project.

How will contributors be compensated for their work?

We will budget for all contributors to receive a full physical bundle + free shipping. Reaching this goal depends upon zine sales. If sales goals are not met, contributors will be able to purchase zine books or merchandise at production cost.If sales do well, any profit left after customer orders and contributor bundles will be split evenly among the contributors & mod team.

What size with the zine be & will templates be provided?

The book will be Digest size – 5.5” x 8.5” vertical.
We have single page & spread templates as well as templates for merch items.

What is the theme of this project?

The theme for The Iida Zine: Volume 2 is "Pro Hero Tenya." It will have more of a focus on Tenya than Volume One. We will also have an addon zine focusing more on Tensei.

Can we draw other characters too?

All pieces must include Tenya and/or Tensei, but they can absolutely be surrounded by friends & family (or villains!).

Is shipping allowed?

Not for this project! Please keep everything ship-free, including side ships & subtlety. Thank you for your understanding!

What timezone is the project using for deadlines?

Central Time Zone (USA) • GMT-5

Will there be guest contributors?

Yes! Guest contributors will be decided both by mod suggestion & suggestions from the Interest Check. Mods will cast a vote and then reach out to invite guests to the project. We may invite some IidaTenBros: The Iida Zine (Volume One) contributors back as guests here!

When will applications open? Who can apply?
Can we apply for more than one position?

Applications will open October 4, 2023.We are looking for applicants for fanfiction writers, page artists, merch artists, and spot artists (pending Interest Check results). We encourage you to apply for any position you’d like to be chosen for—however, for the most part, only one position will be assigned per applicant. Some applicants may be offered two positions; however, you do not have to accept both if you'd rather only do one.

Will you email applicants regardless of acceptance?

Yes, of course! Noone likes being left in the dark. We will send out emails to all applicants regardless of being accepted, chosen as pinch-hitter, or rejected. We will announce on our socials when emails go out, so please check your spam folders if you don’t see yours soon afterward! Sometimes emails need to be sent in batches.

Will applicants be judged or disqualified based on the content they make outside of the zine?

No. We are not concerned with and will not judge what type of content you create on your own time. We are only concerned with curating the content for the project itself. We will, however, disqualify any applicant found to be participating in bullying, witch-hunting, or harassment online. The Mod Team is Pro-ship and does not condone any form of harassment.

How many pieces of art will page artists be expected to create?
Merch artists? Writers?

Page artists will be expected to create at least one page of artwork.
Merch artists will be responsible for at minimum two pieces of merchandise.
Writers will be required to write one fanfic.
Spot Artists will be assigned at least one fanfic to create 3-5 spot art pieces for.
If you would potentially like to do more than one piece, you may discuss with the Mods during the pitching period.

What is the minimum and maximum word count for writers?

The word count expectation is 2,500 - 3,500 words.

How will we submit files for check-in and final submission?

Check-ins will be done by uploading files into a Google form, which will be provided to contributors at the beginning of each check-in. Please include your credit name in the file names & ensure share settings are set to “view by anyone with the link!”Final submissions will be done by dropping final pieces into a Google Drive folder provided by the Mod Team. Please put your names on your files.
Please :)

Will there be an international store / will you ship internationally?

Yes! We will ship to any country with its postal borders open—including the UK & Germany.

When can I share my work on social media?

Once leftover sales have begun, we will allow contributors to share their work in its entirety on social media. Before then, we request that you only share small sneak peeks and clear it with the mod team beforehand.

Can I sell my work at conventions or online?

We ask that you please wait until the zine is fully wrapped up to offer the work for sale. Once leftover sales are closed, feel free to sell your work anywhere you’d like! Merch artists will receive remaining stock of their items and can feel free to reproduce on their own.

Can we submit excerpts for the writer apps?

Absolutely! Please feel free to choose just a portion of an existing fic for an application piece. We do ask that you make sure it is cohesive as a stand-alone piece, so we can judge it based on plot/flow/clarity.
(Also please feel free to link to the full version in the doc in case we wanna read the rest for fun :3 But that's not required.)

Can application pieces contain manga spoilers or should those be avoided?

We're fine with spoilers in applications! You can mark them by putting "spoilers" in the file name, but that isn't necessary.

Do our (art) applications need to contain pieces with detailed backgrounds?

If you are applying to be a page or comic artist, please have at least one example with a detailed background. It could be environmental or decorative, but should demonstrate your ability to create an interesting composition. If you are applying to be a merch artist, you don't need examples with backgrounds, but you should have completed merchandise designs of some sort in your portfolio.

Should we only include MHA/Iida related content in our portfolios or are other examples welcome?

You're more than welcome to include examples from other fandoms—or original content! We just request that at least (1) piece is BNHA. It does NOT have to include Iida, but if you've got one that does, please show us! We'd love to see how you represent him in your style. You can find all our app guidelines > HERE <

Will title, summary, or other information at the beginning of my document count toward the word count?

Nope, anything that isn't strictly your fic won't count toward word count. :D Warnings and such are very appreciated. We won't be especially strict on word count - 500 below or over is perfectly fine, just try not to exceed that if possible :3

Can we send in our written work as a Word document?

You can upload the Word doc(s) into Google Drive and then provide the drive link in the portfolio! Drive will automatically open Word docs as Google Docs—the formatting just looks a little different.

Is it okay to put "x reader" works in our portfolios?

No. Please avoid "x reader" fic examples. Thank you for understanding!
